World War One Navy Veteran Mr Claude Choules Photo: BARCROFTWith the passing of Mr. Choules, and with the exception of Florence Green, a 110 year old former waitress in the Women’s Royal Air Force, we no longer have witnesses to the horrible war that set off a chain reaction throughout the 20th century. World War I is no longer current history. Which means it is a good time to reflect on what this war meant and what it means to us today. Which we will do later. But for now, we mourn the loss of the last World War I combat veteran, whose death has been overshadowed by the capture and death of Osama Bin Laden.
