The Popularity myth resurfaces in the Spiral of Life

Disney’s Lion King movie popularized the concept of life as a circle where the birth of one being is part of the circle that involves the death of another, or the rise to power of yet another.

In class, a professor talked about how in the early church, life was perceived as a spiral, meaning, that when things were lost in time, sometimes those things remained lost and the circle does not return to the same spot, but only comes close.

At my age, I am finding that I still running into certain situations and the question is, did I learn the first time. The most recent spiral point is what I call the Edie story of third grade where I was talked into not being friends with a girl for very shallow reasons. After I complied with the group, I was not invited into the friendship circle of the girls who persuaded me to give up someone who I believe could have been a great friend for life. We don’t want to be your friend, the girls said. We just don’t want you to be friends with Edie.
